If you live in Japan and want to spend crypto you already hold, the realistic overseas options are:
- KAST: $0 Standard card, 1.5% USD cashback on the first $2,000 a month, and Japan is on KAST's Apple Pay country list.
- Tria: highest cashback (Pro 4.5%, Max 6%) and the cheapest ATM fee ($1 + 1%); its help center has step-by-step instructions for Japanese ATMs.
- RedotPay: Japan is on none of its four restriction lists, but the iOS app is not in the Japanese App Store.
- Bitget Wallet Card: its APAC list includes Japan, but Bitget is winding down services for Japan residents, so treat it as uncertain.
If you want to earn crypto from normal yen spending, use a Japan-issued credit card instead: Binance Japan Card (1.6% in BNB), Zaif Card (0.8%, 1.2% on Zaif), SBI VISA Crypto Card, bitFlyer Credit Card or EPOS CRYPTO Card for bitbank (0.5%, or 1.0% on Gold/Platinum), or HashPort Card (0.3% in JPYC).
None of the overseas operators is a crypto-asset exchange registered with Japan's Financial Services Agency, and none guarantees service in Japan. Start with a small balance and keep only what you plan to spend on the card.
Overseas crypto cards you can apply for from Japan
These cards spend a crypto or stablecoin balance you deposit first. Figures come from each issuer's official help center, site or card terms; the Japan column says exactly what the official source shows, because none of them publishes a simple "Japan: yes" line for the card itself.

Notes that change the decision
- Tria's numbers are not all consistent. The September 26, 2026 announcement gives Pro a $1,000 monthly cap and Lite 0.5% after the cap, while the help-center tier table checked on October 10, 2026 shows $2,000 for Pro and 1% after the cap for Lite. Use the figure your app shows. On August 28, 2026 a vulnerability in card partner Rain's contract drained card balances of 636 Tria users ($431,945); Tria says it refunded everyone in full plus 10% on August 29, 2026 (UTC).
- RedotPay on iPhone. On October 10, 2026, Apple's lookup API returned no result for the RedotPay app in Japan and the Japanese store page returned 404; the US and Hong Kong stores offered version 3.14.3. RedotPay has not published a reason. Check that you can install the app before paying a card fee. New card issuance in South Korea stopped on September 15, 2026, according to Korean media, which shows how quickly one country's status can change.
- Bitget Wallet Card is a moving target. Bitget announced on August 3, 2026 that it is ending services for Japan residents: Close-Only mode from 11:00 JST on November 1, 2026, and card services scheduled to stop at 11:00 JST on December 31, 2026. As of October 1, 2026, no official document either included or excluded Bitget Wallet Card from that notice. Do not add a large balance.
- Two more cards whose official pages list Japan. ether.fi Cash lists Japan among countries where a physical card is available (help center updated October 7, 2026); its cashback is tiered (3%, then 1%, then 0.5% by monthly spend) and paid in ETHFI. Fasset lists Japan among Asia-Pacific issuing countries for its USD virtual card (9.99 USDT issuance fee, checked October 1, 2026).

Japan-issued credit cards that pay rewards in crypto
These are ordinary credit cards issued by Japanese companies. You pay the bill in yen; the reward arrives as a crypto asset in a linked Japanese exchange account. Applicants must live in Japan, pass credit screening and usually open the exchange account first. Rates below are standard rates without campaigns.
| Card | Reward asset | Standard reward rate | Annual fee | Account needed |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Binance Japan Card (JCB, Lifecard) | BNB | 1.6% equivalent, credited by mid next month | Free in year one; ¥1,650 from year two, waived after ¥100,000+ of yearly spend | Binance Japan |
| SBI VISA Crypto Card | BTC, ETH or XRP (choose one) | Standard 0.5% (1 point per ¥200); Gold 1.0%. The advertised "up to 0.8% / 1.3%" assumes revolving credit, which charges interest. | Standard ¥1,650 and Gold ¥6,600 from year two; both free in year one | SBI VC Trade (VCTRADE) |
| bitFlyer Credit Card | BTC | Standard 0.5%; Platinum 1.0% | Standard free; Platinum ¥22,000 from year two, waived after ¥3 million+ of yearly spend | bitFlyer |
| EPOS CRYPTO Card for bitbank | BTC, ETH or ASTR | 0.5% | Free | bitbank |
| Zaif Card | BTC, ETH or XYM | 0.8% equivalent; 1.2% on Zaif crypto purchases | Free in year one; ¥1,650 from year two, waived after ¥100,000+ of yearly spend | Zaif |
| HashPort Card | JPYC (Avalanche) | 0.3% | Free; ¥2,500 card issuance fee | HashPort Wallet |
On ¥50,000 of monthly spending, 1.6% is about ¥800 of BNB, 0.8% about ¥400 and 0.5% about ¥250, before any price change in the reward asset. Cards Japan residents cannot get (or cannot confirm)
These cards come up often in searches, but the official sources checked on October 10, 2026 do not support applying from Japan.
Registering with a non-Japanese address or a VPN breaks these services' terms and can lead to a frozen account at the KYC or withdrawal stage.
Tax note for Japan residents
Japan's National Tax Agency explains that profits from crypto-asset transactions are subject to income tax and are, in principle, classified as miscellaneous income, and that buying goods with crypto you hold means you have transferred that crypto. If you pay by card with BTC or another asset that has risen in value, the difference from your acquisition cost is in principle miscellaneous income. Even with a dollar-pegged stablecoin, a difference appears if the yen value differs between when you got it and when you spent it.
As of October 1, 2026, the income-tax rules for individuals' crypto (miscellaneous income, aggregate taxation) had not changed; the proposed 20% separate taxation had not taken effect. Save deposit records (TXID), card statements, yen values, and cashback or referral rewards by month so that filing is straightforward. Rewards from Japan-issued cards are credited as crypto, so record the date, quantity and yen value when they arrive. This is general information, not tax advice; ask the tax office or a tax accountant if you are unsure.
Pick by what you want the card to do
The cards above solve different problems, so start from your use case rather than the headline cashback rate.
To spend USDT, USDC or BTC you already hold, look at KAST, Tria or RedotPay. To earn crypto from yen spending, pick a Japan-issued card by the asset you want (BNB, BTC, ETH, XRP, JPYC).
KAST's 1.5% roughly offsets its 0.5-1.75% FX fee; RedotPay charges 1.2% on yen with no standard cashback; Tria's annual fee is covered by cashback only above a certain spend (Pro at about $2,420 a year under the older $109 fee).
Apple Pay (KAST lists Japan), ATM needs (Tria Pro or above), iPhone app availability (RedotPay) and exit notices (Bitget). Then fund a small amount and test one yen payment before moving more.
FAQ
Which crypto cards can Japan residents get in 2026?
As of October 10, 2026, the main overseas-issued options are KAST, Tria and RedotPay, with Bitget Wallet Card, ether.fi Cash and Fasset also listing Japan on official pages. None is guaranteed to work in Japan and none of the operators is a crypto-asset exchange registered with Japan's FSA. If you want a card issued in Japan, the SBI VISA Crypto Card, bitFlyer Credit Card, EPOS CRYPTO Card for bitbank, Binance Japan Card, Zaif Card and HashPort Card pay rewards in crypto.
What is the difference between an overseas crypto card and a Japan-issued crypto credit card?
An overseas crypto card is usually a debit or prepaid card that spends crypto or stablecoins you have already deposited. A Japan-issued crypto card is a normal credit card: you pay in yen after the statement, and the reward is paid in a crypto asset such as BTC or BNB. Use an overseas card to spend crypto you hold; use a Japan-issued card to collect crypto from yen spending.
Can I download RedotPay on an iPhone in Japan?
Not from the Japanese App Store on October 10, 2026. Apple's lookup API returned no result for the RedotPay app in Japan and the Japanese store page returned 404, while the US and Hong Kong stores offered version 3.14.3. RedotPay has published no explanation. Japan is still absent from RedotPay's restriction lists, so check that you can get the app before paying a card fee.
Which popular crypto cards are not available to Japan residents?
MetaMask Card does not list Japan, Wirex shows N/A for Japan in every column, Bybit completed its Japan remediation on July 22, 2026, Coinbase cards are US only, Nexo Card is for selected European countries, Gnosis Pay never added Japan and is closing its consumer card, and OKX lists Japan as a restricted location. Crypto.com publishes no card country list, so Japan eligibility cannot be confirmed from official pages.
Do I owe tax in Japan when I pay with a crypto card?
Japan's National Tax Agency explains that buying goods with crypto you hold means you have transferred that crypto. If you pay with BTC or another asset that has risen in value, the difference from your acquisition cost is in principle miscellaneous income. Even with a dollar-pegged stablecoin, a gain or loss appears if the yen value differs between when you got it and when you spent it. Keep deposit records, statements, yen values and cashback by month, and ask the tax office or a tax accountant if unsure.
Which crypto card works with Apple Pay in Japan?
KAST is the clearest case: Japan is on KAST's Apple Pay availability list (updated September 10, 2026), judged by the country of residence registered with KAST. Tria says Apple Pay and Google Pay work where supported but publishes no country list. RedotPay paused new Apple Pay additions on August 22, 2025 and now describes adding the card after a free in-app card upgrade.
